How All this Began

  The multi-media project was initiated by English Language Officer David Fay at he U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

In June and July, 2008, Myrtis Mixon   an educator from San Francisco, California, USA held writing workshops at English Access Microscholarship summer schools in five different cities in Russia: Kazan, Novocherkassk, Elista, Samara and Ufa.

As she couldn’t visit our Access school in the city of Khasavyurt, the English language office of the American Embassy invited us to attend the seminar in the city of Elista in Kalmyk Republic.

 

 

 

 

Seven days spent there produced an unforgettable impression upon my students. The students began writing their stories at the seminar and finished them in the fall.

Dr. Mixon edited the stories with the help of David Fay and Natalia Fomenko in the English Language office.

 

 

Also in the fall we prepared, acted and filmed sketches that were based on the stories. We are very proud that there nine stories written by Khasavyurt Access school are published in the book.
