ACCESS Groups in OrlyonokThis year the students of ACCESS schools from Khasavyurt were lucky- in March they had a lucky chance of spending three weeks in All Russia Children’s Center “Orlyonok”. It was a bright new shift which was going under the flowing slogans: “The Banner of Kindness” and “The Dialogue of Cultures”. There we met students from Samara and Kazan ACCESS schools for the first time. The Samara group was headed by Evgenia Kudryavtseva and the Kazan group – by Yuliana Amanova

All of us were accommodated in a very nice cozy two storied building in the camp “Solnetchny”. At first the students were unsociable, because for my students it was their first trip to a far away place without parents and they missed their homes greatly.
But starting from the first days their very experienced councilors involved them into the camp activities and they didn’t have a chance to miss their families any longer.
To start with, we had to present our ACCESS group at the opening ceremony of a new Camp Shift “Under the Banner of Goodwill” and “Dialogue of Cultures”.

Then the camp life began – going to school, attending different hobby groups to their interests, and obligatory English language classes. But before beginning our English workshops we decided to have a written test and make three groups of students according to their results. We agreed to change the groups after 6 lessons so that we could teach in all groups. We used a lot of interesting material at the workshops.

Unfortunately the students were so busy at school, at their hobby groups that it was very difficult for them to do their English homework so we had to learn everything at the workshops. The children got acquainted and became friends very quickly and we didn’t have any problems with their living together.
They were very fond of their evening talks before going to bed when they exchanged their opinions about the current day.
The time went on very quickly and we had to part.

Who could have ever predicted that my “domestic” children would cry and ask me to let them stay with their new friends longer.
Now all them are involved into “Vkontakte.ru” and correspond with Samara and Kazan.
SO, my students and I are very grateful to the English Language office of the American Embassy in Moscow for the opportunity to spend a month in a quite place and get acquainted with very nice ACESS teachers and students.
